Why Your Free Class Isn’t Filling Even Though You’re Posting Constantly
Apr 08, 2026
The Missing Link Between Visibility and Conversions
You are posting consistently.
You are showing up online.
You are creating reels, captions, videos, and educational content.
But your free class still is not filling the way you hoped.
And your paid offer?
Still not converting the way it should.
If that sounds familiar, this coaching session is going to help you so much.
In this episode, I coached Janet Massey, a physical therapist turned online membership owner, through a problem many entrepreneurs face:
“How do I turn visibility into actual conversions?”
And honestly?
This conversation uncovered several common mistakes entrepreneurs make when trying to:
• Fill a free workshop
• Grow an email list
• Convert followers into paying clients
• Sell a membership or program sustainably
Because visibility alone does not automatically create conversions.
Your marketing system matters too.
Meet Janet Massey
Janet Massey helps women heal from the effects of trauma through movement, somatic work, biblical principles, and body awareness practices.
Using her background as a physical therapist, she now teaches people online through:
• Somatic practices
• Self-lymphatic massage
• Nervous system support
• Movement-based healing
• Her Align Membership community
And while her work is incredibly impactful…
She found herself frustrated because her visibility efforts were not translating into growth.
The Real Problem Was NOT the Content
One of the first things we uncovered:
The issue was not that Janet’s content was bad.
The issue was:
• Not enough people were seeing it
• Her calls-to-action were unclear
• Her marketing system was incomplete
And honestly?
This is where many entrepreneurs get stuck.
They think:
“If I just post more…”
But visibility alone does not create conversions.
There needs to be a clear pathway from:
Content → Email List → Free Training → Paid Offer
Trying To Be Everywhere Was Slowing Growth
Janet shared that she had been posting on:
• Facebook
• Instagram
• LinkedIn
• Pinterest
• YouTube
• TikTok
And this is incredibly common.
Entrepreneurs often assume:
“Maybe my audience is somewhere else…”
So they spread themselves across every platform imaginable.
But after experimenting, Janet realized something important:
Facebook was actually converting best for her.
And honestly?
That is not surprising.
Because Facebook still offers:
• Personal profiles
• Groups
• Community-building
• Longer conversations
• Relationship-building opportunities
And those things matter tremendously for coaches and service providers.
Visibility Does NOT Mean Vanity Metrics
One of my favorite moments in this conversation was discussing Instagram.
Because yes…
Instagram may create:
• More views
• More likes
• More vanity metrics
But that does not automatically equal sales.
And honestly?
I would much rather have:
• Smaller reach
• Better conversations
• More email subscribers
• More conversions
Than thousands of passive viewers who never buy.
Your Social Media Should Lead People to ONE Thing
This was one of the biggest breakthroughs during the coaching session.
Janet had been telling people:
“Go to my website.”
And while that sounds logical…
It creates overwhelm.
Because when someone lands on a full website, they suddenly see:
• Blogs
• Podcasts
• About pages
• Services
• Resources
• Menus everywhere
And the result?
They do nothing.
This is why I teach:
Your content should lead people toward ONE clear call-to-action.
Not:
“Go explore my website.”
Instead:
• Register for this free class
• Download this free resource
• Join this workshop
• Grab this checklist
One pathway.
One decision.
Your Cover Photo Should Grow Your Email List
We also discussed something I teach often:
Your Facebook cover photo should actively support email list growth.
Your cover photo is prime real estate.
When someone becomes curious about you and clicks your profile, your cover photo should immediately:
• Explain what you do
• Tell people who you help
• Offer a free resource or workshop
• Lead directly to an opt-in page
And yes…
That opt-in should absolutely require an email address.
Why Her Free Class Wasn’t Growing
This part of the conversation was incredibly important.
Janet shared:
“I’m doing more work now than I did before… but my registration numbers are staying the same.”
And after digging deeper, several things became clear.
1. The Email Promotion Strategy Was Too Light
She was not emailing her audience enough before the class.
And listen…
I know entrepreneurs worry about “annoying people.”
But people are busy.
Most people need multiple reminders before taking action.
Reminder Emails Matter More Than Most Entrepreneurs Realize
One of the biggest issues we uncovered:
Registrants were only receiving:
• A confirmation email
• A reminder 15 minutes before the event
That is simply not enough.
Especially if someone registered weeks earlier.
I explained that successful live launches often include:
• Confirmation emails
• “Starts tomorrow” reminders
• “Starts today” reminders
• “We’re live in one hour” reminders
• “We start in 15 minutes” reminders
And honestly?
Adding calendar links alone can dramatically improve show-up rates.
Stop Publicly Leading With “There Will Be a Replay”
This is another huge mistake entrepreneurs make.
If people believe:
“Oh, I can watch the replay later…”
They often will not prioritize attending live.
And live attendance matters because:
• People engage more
• People stay longer
• People convert better
• Energy and connection are stronger live
That does not mean you cannot HAVE a replay.
It simply means you should not lead your marketing with:
“Don’t worry, there will be a replay.”
Live Bonuses Increase Attendance Rates
We also discussed incentivizing live attendance.
Janet had experimented with bonuses before, but she had not promoted them ahead of time.
This matters.
People need a reason to prioritize showing up live.
That could include:
• Bonus resources
• Worksheets
• Templates
• Giveaways
• Special trainings
• Live Q&A access
And yes…
Even small bonuses can significantly improve attendance.
Free Classes ARE Launches
This was probably one of the biggest mindset shifts in the episode.
Entrepreneurs often think:
“It’s just a free class.”
But if the class leads into a paid offer…
It is a launch.
Which means you need:
• A promotion plan
• Reminder emails
• Follow-up emails
• Registration strategy
• Messaging strategy
• Show-up incentives
• Conversion follow-up
A free class should never feel random or last-minute.
Messaging Matters More Than Posting More Content
One of the biggest insights from this coaching session:
The issue was not volume.
It was messaging.
If people are seeing content but not registering, often one of these is happening:
• The pain point is unclear
• The transformation is vague
• The offer is confusing
• The CTA is weak
• The messaging is too broad
And thankfully…
Messaging can absolutely be refined.
You Do NOT Need To Over-Niche Yourself
Toward the end of the conversation, we also discussed ideal client clarity.
And I shared something I strongly believe:
You do NOT need a ridiculously detailed avatar like:
• “She drives this car…”
• “She shops at this store…”
• “She has two kids named Sally and John…”
Instead:
Focus on:
• The problem
• The desire
• The transformation
That clarity matters far more.
