How to Make Creating Social Media Content Easier

Dec 09, 2021

The very idea of creating relatable and engaging social media content can be enough to make any business owner's skin crawl, particularly if they have no background in content creation.  If you’ve ever tried to formulate a social media campaign for your business you may have found yourself staring at a blank screen wondering, “What should I post today?”, “Is anybody else even going to think that this is important?”, or “What’s the point?”.  It can be overwhelming and frustrating, for sure, but there are ways to make this process feel a lot more accessible to you by focusing on three key components; value, education, and inspiration.

In order to ensure that the content you’re posting can provide these elements to your audience, you first have to get really clear on who your audience is.  What is your ideal client going through?  Are they struggling with nutrition, looking to attract more clients, trying to manage their time better, seeking technical resolutions, or something else?  Get inside your client’s head by pondering what they are feeling, thinking and needing and then recognizing how you could offer them a solution to the problem they are tackling.  Your content should speak directly to these needs every single time.  Once you’ve completed this step, you can proceed to the brainstorming portion of creating a social media posting schedule.

Now that you know who you’re trying to work with and what they are struggling with, it’s time to get a bunch of ideas flowing.  Write down or type as many things as you can possibly think of about your clients needs.  Try not to judge or edit yourself; just jot down whatever pops into your brain.  My guess is that you will easily be able to find 10 or 15 things that your ideal client would benefit from knowing or that they likely need.  Even if you can only come up with 8, think of that as 2 entire months’ worth of content!  How?  Let’s take a look.

The goal here is to work smarter and not harder.  If you have 8 topics, that can effectively fuel 8 separate weeks of content if you work smart.  Each week, focus on one topic that you’ve written down.  You are likely present on multiple social media platforms, but that doesn’t mean you have to post on them all in one day.  Maybe you want to choose a couple of different days throughout the week (let’s say Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and post your content on different platforms on particular days.  For example, maybe Monday I make a post on Facebook, Wednesday I use the same topic but switch up my content a bit and post a video on Instagram and on Friday I modify a bit more (but keep it within the same genre) to post on LinkedIn.  It might feel easier to post all of your content for the week on one platform and then reuse it on another platform for the following week so that you have consistent material that you can recycle throughout different platforms.  However you choose to do it, voila, it’s done!  Just like that, you’ve created a week’s worth of content without feeling like you have to post every single day or on every single platform all at once.  Don’t worry about the following week until it arrives!  Just set aside some time on your calendar to do the same thing each week and you’re done.  Now doesn’t that feel a little bit easier?

You might be asking yourself what types of content you should be focusing on.  While there’s many different ways that you can choose to show up on your social media platforms, it is recommended to post at least one live video per week.  Also, take advantage of IG and Facebook stories.  Post in groups that you are connected to and remember to follow up by interacting with the people who like and/or comment on your content.  Send them a private message to acknowledge their interaction and deepen your connection with them.  The more that you can connect with your audience in authentic ways, the more benefit you will derive from leveraging your social media platforms.  However you choose to interact, remember to focus on those three key components.  How is your content offering value to your audience?  How is it educating them? How is it inspiring them?

If there’s nothing else that you take away from today’s training, I want you to leave with this.  Successfully posting on social media is all about consistency, not perfection (contrary to what you might have been led to believe).  It’s great to have flashy, filtered content, but it’s absolutely not necessary.  In fact, the more authentic you can be, the more you will engage your audience and earn their trust.  The more consistently your audience gets to see this side of you, the deeper the relationship becomes.  Interrupted by your dog or your kid during a live video?  Roll with it!  Have an itch on your nose?  Scratch it.  Your clients are living a real life and they want to know that you are, too.

So, it’s truly that simple.  Creating social media content does not have to throw you into a state of paralyzing fear or anxiety.  Just start to jot some ideas onto paper and see what comes up.  The more that you do this, the more great ideas will start to come to you.  Before you know it, you will have months of content just waiting to be used.  You’ll also likely begin to notice some patterns forming in the way you post, the types of content you are offering and how you are interacting with your audience, making it exponentially easier to plan out subsequent weeks.

So let's dive into today's topic. Do you sit in front of the blank computer screen or do you stare at your phone wondering, What am I going to post on social media today? Social media content: it can be overwhelming, for sure. Do you find yourself just thinking, Is anybody going to listen to this? What am I going to say? Who's going to see it? Do they even care? I mean we have all had days like that. So let's talk about how to make it easier, Shall we? When we create content for our target market, it has to be of value. It's got to be educational. It needs to inspire. Think about what your ideal client is going through. Are they struggling with, let's say, nutrition? Are they struggling to attract new clients? Are they struggling with time management? Are they struggling with Tech Issues? You want to get into the mind of your client as much as possible. What are they thinking? What are they feeling? What do they need and how you, How can you be their best solution?

We show them that you are their best solution by creating content that speaks directly to their needs. Once you have thought through what they need, what they're thinking, then here's what I want you to do. I want you to brain dump a-list of topics around their needs. Just put them on paper or on your computer. Doesn't matter. But don't judge anything, that's that's bubbling up in your brain. Just brain dump it and let those ideal Ideas flow. I bet that you can come up with a-list of at least ten things that your clients want to know or that they need. For me, my content is all about helping you grow your business, so it's marketing, its sales and its mindset. My goal with my social media content is to give you tips and strategies to solve your problems as a business owner. So now you have your list. Let's say you've got eight topic ideas on that list, well, that's two months content right there! How is that two months of content? Here's the tip, take one content, one content topic per week for the next eight weeks. Map it out on your calendar. One topic per week. For each week. You only focus on that one topic. That's it! You don't think about the week before and you don't think about the week after. You think about the week in front of you. So let's break that down. That one week is seven days. Are you going to post on all of your platforms every single day? My guess is you're probably not, so pick a few days of the week. Let's say you want to post Monday, Wednesday, Friday. So now, you're not creating a whole week's worth of content. You're only creating three things: one for Monday, one for Wednesday, one for Friday, three posts for that week. Doesn’t that feel way easier and more doable than trying to come up with an entire week or an entire month at a time? Doesn't that feel less overwhelming? Create just three posts on your one topic. My suggestion is that one of these is a live video and before you say heck no and you turn off this training, stick with me. The truth is Video is king and it's time we embrace it, because it's not going anywhere for a while and I've got lots of secrets I can share with you to get you comfortable doing video and even going live. That's another training for another day.

You've got three ideas based on your one topic, so are you on Instagram? You're going to want to do a post and a reel which you can then share to your IG story, and then I recommend a live video. If you're on Facebook, post to your personal, your Facebook story, and then what about posting your valuable content in a Facebook group where your ideal client hangs out so that you can inspire other people and get more eyes on your name that way, and a Facebook live wouldn't hurt either. Remember to go back and interact with everyone that likes, hearts, comments. Thank them for liking your photo. Thank them for liking your post. Send them a DM that says hey, thanks so much for the love on my on my photograph. I appreciate that so much. How's your business going this year? This is how social media benefits you. Posting and going live is a great way for people to see you, but until we take that visibility and turn it into actual clients, then it serves no purpose.

You can have 10000 followers on Instagram. My question is. First of all, are they your ideal clients? And second, Is that turning into actual dollars in your bank account? That's also another training for another day. I've got lots of tips and strategies on how to turn that visibility that you have from your posts and your conversations, putting it into the DMs so that it can actually lead to income grow and new clients. Let's go back to your three posts, for just a second, the ones you have planned for the week. Let’s say you're like me and you're on more than one platform. Some experts would say that you can post the same content on the same day on different platforms. Then other experts would say that's a mistake, because you're training your audience that they only need to consume your content in that one spot. Lots of different opinions on this, about who’s right and who knows, Right?

So here's my suggestion, make it easy on yourself. The three posts you do this week on Facebook you can easily use next week or the after on a different platform. Change up the emojis, change up a few words here and there and the hashtags make it easy. It's up to you. The biggest thing I want you to learn today is that creating content does not have to be hard. We think it has to be amazing and flashy, filtered and perfect. It doesn't, my friends, breathe a sigh of relief with me. Okay, the key to social media is consistency, not perfection, not flashiness. Be real, be you, be consistent, allow people to get to know you so they actually feel like they're in a relationship with you. I mean, you guys remember, you know, there are times when I'm doing Facebook lives where I have been interrupted by my dog needing to go out to the bathroom. I mean, if you catch my live video, you will see stuff like that happen and I have a coach that literally had to stop her live video the other day and I'll go outside the room because she had such a bad head cold she had to blow her nose and I'm thinking she's a multi-million dollar, successful business coach. Did I think less of her? No. I felt more connected to her than ever as a human being because who hasn’t had a raging cold? Where they just have to sneeze or blow your nose? And who hasn't had a dog completely interrupt your live video? I mean, it’s real life. That's what your audience, what your audience wants. They want to know you. Add value and education to your audience, teach them, inform them, inspire them and let them get to know you. Okay, so we're going to recap real quick, brain dump the topics. Nothing is off-limits. Don't judge anything, don't filter anything. Just put it out, all out on paper. You got four topics, cool. There's four weeks of content, three to four posts about that topic and you are good to go! Repurpose the content by using it on different platforms at different times. Don't think you have to recreate something for each platform. Facebook and Instagram are pretty similar. With LinkedIn, you're going to want to be a little bit more businessy, but you get what I'm saying. And a bonus tip for you, the more you do this, I promise, the more ideas you're going to have and, before you know it, you're going to have 90 days’ worth of content and you know what you can do then? You can literally go back to day one, week one, and re-use what you already have because….No offense here, but I guarantee you that no one will remember what you posted 90 days ago.
